Those suffering from tooth loss may come to rely on dentures and end up avoiding the surgical procedures necessary for a long term solution like implants. At Nova Perio, we specialize in treating patients with dental anxiety. We offer several levels of sedation dentistry in Leesburg, VA to ensure the comfort of our patients throughout the entire process.

Common Reasons for Sedation Dentistry

Dental work is necessary for your long term heath, but not everyone is comfortable being evaluated during treatment. Many patients avoid the dentist and allow serious problems to go untreated.

Sedation techniques can help those who suffer from:

Extreme anxiety or phobia
Embarrassment
Sensitive gag reflex
Low pain tolerance or highly sensitive teeth
Dr. Kharmouche creates a unique sedation therapy for each patient based on their needs and goals. Even for surgical procedures like receiving implants or gum restoration, sedation can help you to relax and finally obtain the care you need.
Types of Sedation
We offer three different sedation techniques.
Intravenous Conscious Relaxation – A dose administered directly to your blood stream
Oral Sedatives – A pill taken before your appointment to relax you during your visit
Local Anesthetic – An injection of Lidocaine numbs the area being treated
To ensure your safety, your vitals are monitored closely while you are under sedation. We check your heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and breathing. Complications are extremely rare, and we take every precaution to avoid them. After your treatment has been performed, you will be discharged and sent home to recover.

Sedation dentistry is preferred for many of our patients who undergo dental implant procedures. While the procedure to install implants is relatively simple and pain free, the anxiety caused by this procedure is overwhelming to some.
